Manifesting Advice - The biggest hurdle many folks face in creating abundance is surrendering control over to the universe, allowing it to bring them the prosperity they desire. We fret and stew. We mistakenly focus on the "lack of having" instead of allowing opportunities and relationships to evolve naturally. Just as a watched pot never boils our manifestation seeds cannot grow optimally when worry, fear, or anxiousness overshadow them.

My advice is to not dwell on whatever it is that you are wanting to happen or changes you desire in your life. Empower yourself by stating your intention request and release it to the universal winds to carry it out into the world where it can attract the energies you wish to have returned to you. Then, get busy living your life day-to-day, do whatever you can to find happiness in every moment.

Don't get stuck in "It won't ever happen" or 'I'm not deserving" defeating thinking. Be willing to accept opportunities from a variety of doors... accept nothing less than what you desire or something better.

Medicinal values of the popular herb Star Anise

star anise herbThe Star anise, botanical name Illicium Verum, is a licorice-flavored star-shaped fruit, mostly grown in China, Japan and Vietnam. It is dark brown in colour, with eight seeded petal-like segments. The fruit is usually picked before ripening and then dried to be used as a spice or a medicinal herb. However, it is considered to be more potent than the regular anise seed, otherwise used in the West.

Apart from its culinary uses, Star anise is a popular herb used in the Indian Ayurveda medical system and ancient Chinese therapies for centuries. Mentioned here are some of the key medicinal values of Star Anise, and its importance in Ayurveda:

Star Anise is prescribed as an excellent digestive aid. It is used to relieve colic, and other symptoms related to flatulence including headache, nausea, vomiting, gastric distress, and to stimulate the appetite. The anti-spasmodic properties help relieve the stomach upset.

Given, its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and expectorant properties, it is widely used in treating coughs, particularly whooping cough, asthma and bronchitis. Therefore, it is used as an ingredient in some cough mixtures. Ayurveda believes that Star Aniseed helps in tackling the mucus accumulation, owing to presence of kapha dosha in the intestines.

It promotes reproductive health in women, and is good for lactating mothers, as it helps increase breast-milk secretion. It also helps relieve discomforts associated with menopause, but, only when taken in the right quantities after consultation with a physician.

Due to the presence of a compound, Shikimic acid, star anise is used in preparing drugs for curing influenza and flu virus. It is already used commercially in flu medications, including the Tamiflu, the only drug effective against the Bird Flu.

Star anise is also said to possess carminative, stimulant, stomachic and diuretic properties.

Star anise is also recommended as a natural breath freshener, and can be chewed with cardamom pods, after a meal.

Star anise, in the oil form, is an effective relief for pain associated with rheumatism.

Star anise helps boost one’s overall well-being, due to its high anti-oxidant properties, owing to the presence of Linalool compound.
The insecticidal properties of the spice, makes it effective against lice, termites and cockroaches.

Tea: To make a tea, crush 1 to 2 teaspoons of seeds and add to a cup of boiling water. Allow the tea to steep for five to ten minutes and strain. Add 4tsp of honey and 4 tsp. of glycerin to the resulting solution. Take 2 tsp. of this syrup every few hours for relief from hacking coughs.

Infusion: The seeds should be gently crushed prior to use, so as to release its volatile oils. Add a cup of boiling water to 1-2 tsp. of seeds, and allow it to stand covered for 5 to 10 minutes. Take a cup of this infusion thrice a day before meals to treat flatulence.

Oil: One drop of oil can be taken internally, after mixing with half a teaspoon of honey.

Capsule: When consuming in capsule format, take 1 or 2 capsules thrice a day at mealtime with water.

Caution: When purchasing star anise, ensure that you get the Chinese star anise, as it is considered safe. The Japanese variety is said to contain sikimitoxin, a toxic substance, which has been associated with certain medical conditions including seizures, vomiting, and jitteriness.

Do Food Allergies Cause Fibromyalgia?Whenever there is a chronic condition that affects 6 million Americans there is a lot of talk about what causes the condition. One theory is that food allergies cause fibromyalgia.

Researchers, scientists and doctors are still trying to pinpoint the exact causes(s) of fibromyalgia and some researchers do believe that there are some valid points to the theory that it can be caused or at least contributed to food allergies; especially when it comes to delayed pattern food allergy and non-specific pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia.

Triggers are often discussed when it comes to flares in conditions such as fibromyalgia where one day symptoms are mild and the next they are severe. What causes the difference in intensity of symptoms from one day to the next? One explanation would be food sensitivities to staple food substances such as eggs, coffee, meat, milk and wheat.

One fact that seems to support the food allergies theory is that interestingly enough the one earliest symptom described by those who have yet to be diagnosed with fibromyalgia and that comes out after the diagnosis is that they first became aware of something being wrong when they noticed digestive system problems. This would suggest a connection between food sensitivities or food allergies and fibromyalgia.

There are however a different set of symptoms that are also known to be connected to food allergies that are not connected in any way to the digestive system and they include aches, confusion, irritability, food poisoning symptoms, drowsiness, and lack of motivation or energy and also headaches, skin rashes, depression or mental fogginess, joint and muscle pains and weight fluctuations. These symptoms are more likely to be associated with immune mechanisms then they would be with a food delay pattern allergy.

Because there are so many different symptoms associated with fibromyalgia there may be different manifestations of food allergies with different clinical conditions for instance those with fibromyalgia often suffer associated conditions such as asthma, and irritable bowel syndrome both of which can be manifested by food allergies.

Researchers have identified the following symptoms suffered by those who have been identified as having fibromyalgia that are and have been associated with food allergies including:

Abdominal pain (irritable bowel syndrome)

Bladder issues

Cold intolerance

Dry Eyes and mouth

Numbness or tingling in hands or feet

Restless legs syndrome

Secondary to growth hormone deficiency or to psychological problems

Researchers have also made a connection to immune system mechanisms that are common to both food allergies and fibromyalgia symptoms such as irregular or improper entry of food molecules into the bloodstream, the activation of certain immune cells and immune complexes and also the release of chemicals that are active immune cells. This occurs because the human body’s immune system is set to recognize foods that are toxic and may be harmful to the body.

Heart Saving Headlines

An important lesson cardiologists have learned over the past few decades is that patients don’t necessarily need to be overweight or out of shape to be at risk for heart attacks and strokes. Even more surprising to some is that the processes that underlie heart disease often begin very early in life. Fatty deposits in arteries or atherosclerosis is no longer considered the exclusive domain of adults. These undeniable facts provide justification for a steady stream of new information about how to best manage the current and ever growing cardiovascular crisis.

Patients and physicians need to be on the cutting edge when it comes to diagnostic testing, diet and medications that may help protect against various insults to the cardiovascular system. This past month alone has revealed some very interesting insights that can assist both interested parties.

Heart Headline #1 - Sometimes Older Physicians Are Best

If you’re under the impression that younger doctors are more open to the idea of using natural approaches to reduce heart risk, think again. A new review in the June 2011 issue of the International Journal of Clinical Practice reports that doctors under the age of 45 are actually more likely to prescribe antidiabetic, antiplatelet, blood pressure and cholesterol lowering drugs than older physicians. According to this investigation, physicians falling in the “46 to 55? and “over 55? age brackets suggest diet and lifestyle modification to a greater extent than their younger colleagues. What’s more, older doctors were more accurate when recording clinical data about patients. Such accuracy has previously been linked to a better cardiovascular (CV) outlook for patients. These findings become all the more relevant when you consider that recent studies have found that: a) common heart medications (aspirin and simvastatin) are ineffective in treating pulmonary arterial hypertension and; b) even short term use of pain relievers (NSAIDs or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) are associated with an increased risk of heart attacks in patients with cardiovascular disease. (1,2,3,4,5)

Heart Headline #2 - Use Fitness to Help Predict Heart Attack and Stroke Risk

There are a great many diagnostic tools that cardiologists can employ to determine your short term (10 years or less) and long term (25 years or more) heart risk. A simple treadmill test may soon be added to the recommended list. Researchers at the UT Southwestern Medical Center are the latest to confirm the importance of exercise capacity and rate as predictors of lifetime heart attack and stroke incidence. To illustrate their findings, the authors offered the following examples:

“A 55-year-old man who needs 15 minutes to run a mile has a 30% lifetime risk of developing heart disease.”“A 55-year-old women who can run a mile in 8 minutes has a lifetime risk of less than 10%.”

Also of significance is that exercise appears to offer protection even to those with established risk factors such as diabetes, elevated lipid panels and high blood pressure. The take home message is that a basic treadmill test could and should be included to conventional CV risk assessment as a complementary diagnostic tool. (6,7,8)

Heart Headline #3 - Nonpharmacological Strategies Can Be Lifesavers

Angioplasty is a procedure that inflates a small balloon inside an artery in order to press plaque against the vessel wall. The idea is to allow for more space for blood to freely flow. A stent is then typically placed in the affected area to ensure that the artery remains open. A 14 year analysis in a group of 2,395 angioplasty patients found that those who took part in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) experienced a 46% reduction in mortality as compared to those who did not. CR is a form of follow-up care that involves dietary counseling, exercise training, support with smoking cessation and weight loss therapy. Cardiac rehabilitation isn’t considered an alternative treatment. However, it’s estimated that only about a quarter of all eligible patients receive this type of guidance and monitoring. Most insurance plans cover this therapeutic modality and it should be insisted upon when not offered by a treating physician. (9,10)

Heart Headline #4 - Dairy Doesn’t Increase Cardiovascular Disease Incidence or Mortality

You want to follow a heart healthy diet but you’re having a hard time giving up cheese, milk and yogurt. Take heart: a new study appearing in the journal Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases set out to find a link between dairy consumption and cardiovascular risk in a group of 3,630 middle-aged men and women and discovered no such connection. The authors of the paper in question from Brown University theorize that there may be certain protective elements in dairy (calcium, CLA or conjugated linoleic acid, magnesium, potassium, Vitamin D, etc.) that offset any potential consequences relating to dairy’s saturated fat content. This finding is supported by several other recent publications that tend to show a net beneficial or neutral affect with relation to dairy intake and cardiovascular disease incidence and/or mortality. (11,12,13,14,15,16)

Heart Headline #5 - See Red: Eat Tomatoes and/or Supplement with Lycopene

There’s more good news on the nutrition front. Dr. Karin Ried of the University of Adelaide suggests including more tomatoes in your diet as a natural means of controlling cardiovascular risk. According to Dr. Ried, a daily dosage of 25 mg/day of lycopene, an antioxidant carotenoid found in tomatoes, “can reduce LDL-cholesterol by up to 10%”. She goes on to say, “that’s comparable to the effect of low doses of medication commonly prescribed for people with slightly elevated cholesterol, but without the side effects of these drugs, which can include muscle pain and weakness and nerve damage.” And that’s only part of the story. In recent months, publications in the the journal Atherosclerosis, the Journal of Internal Medicine and the Journal of Nutrition confirm that lycopene: a) supports cardiovascular health by protecting arteries from hardening and plaque build up; b) reduces oxidative stress and subsequent endothelial dysfunction; c) inhibits systemic inflammation and pro-thrombotic factors which contribute to abnormal clotting. (17,18,19,20,21)

Of the five headlines presented today, the first three are directly associated with the type of medicine you’ll likely receive from conventional, Western-style physicians. Diagnostic testing, follow-up interventions and medication are familiar components of standard patient care. But you can influence how these modalities are administered by sharing pertinent information and voicing your preference for testing and treatment options. When you combine this proactive approach with the latest data pertaining to diet and self care you’ll establish a powerful and uncommon treatment and wellness alliance.

What is Beta-Glucanase?

VeganZyme contains a vegan-safe form of the enzyme beta-glucanase. It is sourced from a kosher-cerified and non-GMO source that is suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.

Beta glucans are a polysaccharide made of glucose molecules linked together into long chains that humans cannot readily digest. In more familiar terms they are cellulose plant fiber, cereal bran fiber, and parts of certain types of fungi, yeast, and bacteria. As kind of indigestible fiber, they may become viscous in the intestinal tract and slow peristalsis (intestinal contractions). Beta glucans are health-promoting in that they act as intestinal fiber, may help reduce high serum cholesterol levels and help create regularity through bulk formation. Water-soluble fibers may also help to regulate blood sugar and reduce the likelihood of developing colon cancer.

Due to these important benefits, it is important to include foods with beta glucans in the diet, but it is equally important to have enough of the beta-glucanase enzyme. Why? Because Beta glucanase hydrolyzes these glucans, reducing viscosity and helping to restore natural peristalsis. This enhances the digestive process, increasing the overall nutritional value of your food.

In addition, the common effects of indigestion, bloating, abdominal discomfort and gas are greatly alleviated. You may also find your need for antacids will decrease substantially. Most importantly, in regard to beta glucanase, you will be able to better digest heavy cereal grains such as wheat, barley and rye.

VeganZyme contains 100% vegan forms of Beta glucanase, This enzyme is found naturally in yeast, grains and medicinal mushrooms. VeganZyme’s Beta glucanase is produced by fermentation of the fungal organism Trichoderma reesei.

Beta-Glucanase represents a group of carbohydrase enzymes break down glycosidic bonds within beta-glucan. These glucans also create up to 60% of the cell wall of many forms of fungal organisms such as C. albicans and and candidal biofilm (the common experience of candida in the gut).

BGU (Beta Glucanase Unit) is an FCC measurement based on 15-min hydrolysis of lichenin substrate at 40°C and pH 6.5. This offers an increase in reducing power due to liberated reducing groups measured by the neocuproine method. The FCC notation stands for Foods Chemical Codex, and is a division of USP (United States Pharmacopeia). It sets standards for ingredients. In the case of enzymes, FCC is a standard assay used to accurately determine the activity of enzymes. The current compendium is FCC VI.

People suffering from an overgrowth of the candida fungus (a condition also known as candidiasis) may benefit from taking beta-glucanase. Although it is a fungus or yeast infection, it is notoriously difficult to treat because of its inherent ability to resist antimicrobial agents. Sadly, many people treat digestive problems and infections with prolonged and high-dose antibiotics.

This can actually increase Candida’s ability to become even more antibiotic-resistant. Beta-glucanase is an enzyme that has been found to be particularly useful in reducing the coating or biofilm of Candida that can grow in the digestive tract.

When an overabundance of beta-glucan is secreted by gut bacteria or candidal cells, there is a build up of biofilms within the organism. Science is currently looking into the link between these biofilms, the overgrowth of fungal organisms, as well as increased fugal resistance to antifungal drug therapy. The build up of excess of beta glucans has also been linked to increased antibiotic resistance. In vitro and in vivo studies on Candida biofilms show that when we have more beta-glucanase in the system, the Candida becomes significantly more susceptible to antifungal agents. Perhaps more important, in vitro research has also shown that just supplementing with beta-glucanase alone reduces Candida biofilm in the gut. These preliminary scientific findings suggest that beta-glucanase may help reduce some of the challenging symptoms associated with having excess Candida in the intestinal tract.

A great number of studies on enzymes have been conducted in Europe and Russia on actual human participants. The great majority suggest that a broad-spectrum enzyme preparation containing beta glucanse can improve overall digestion and reduce a large amount of negative gastrointestinal issues. One fascinating, as yet unpublished trial done by a commercial enzyme manufacturer looked into the use of a beta glucanase-containing multi-enzyme preparation and its effects on carbohydrate and protein digestive capacities.

The scientists created a gastrointestinal model for human digestion, including both the stomach and small intestinal tract, in an effort to quantitatively measure enzyme efficiency and effects. It was found that the meals taken with digestive enzymes, in optimal digestive conditions, significantly improved carbohydrate digestion and had a small improvement on protein digestion. Similarly, under conditions of less-than-optimal digestion, the multi-enzyme preparation greatly improved both carbohydrate and protein digestion.

What is in your sunscreen?

University of California researchers discovered that oxybenzone – a common sunscreen ingredient – boosts the production of dangerous free radicals in your skin after just 20 minutes of exposure to the sun!

Sunscreens Block the Good Stuff, Too
The sun is your friend. It provides many health benefits – because it’s your main source of vitamin D. Vitamin D promotes bone strength by improving calcium absorption. You need it for a healthy immune system. It helps you control blood pressure. In fact, it has dozens of healthy benefits. Your body makes vitamin D when you expose your skin to the sun. Just 15 – 20 minutes of sun each day is enough for most people to make all the vitamin D they need. Sunscreens don’t do much very well… but they effectively block vitamin D production.

Studies show that about one-third of all Americans already don’t get enough vitamin D. And large number of children are beginning to experience bone development problems – which are being linked to the chemicals in most the chemicals in most sunscreens.

If you use these kinds of these kinds of sunscreens as directed, you never get enough sun to make the vitamin D you need. You see, you have to plan ahead with ordinary sunblock products. To get any benefit, you have to apply them a half hour – or more – before sun exposure.
